The Practice of Self-Care

What is this elusive thing people call self-care? An interesting question to ponder, to be certain, and one that does not necessarily look the same for us all. However, many of the same ideas will bring everyone similar benefits.

The important thing to realize about self-care is that it is subjective, and the influence acts of self-care have on individuals across the globe will vary based entirely on where each of us are in our lives. Also important is that self-care isn’t a one-stop shop where all your problems are lifted away and you’re suddenly happy.

No, indeed, self-care is a commitment to yourself of the highest order—a commitment that can change your life and bring about miracles. I believe there are basic tenets that create the cornerstones of proper self-care practice.

They are:

1) It harms no one else or yourself;

2) It brings positivity, if only even for fleeting moments at a time;

3) You put yourself first, for however long you are able as a daily practice; and

4) To practice self-care is to practice the art of self-love,

letting all judgments of yourself pass beyond you for

whatever level you are able to do so, and build from there.

One aspect of self-care that changed my world was oral cleansing habits. Using several different techniques I will outline in detail in my blog, I jumpstarted my immune system and soared high into healthy change for which I am eternally grateful.

Keep an eye on my blog for more stories detailing my own self-care practice, and ideas for your use!
